Congratulations to Debarshi Sarkar on successfully defending his Engineering and Applied Science (EAS) PhD thesis proposal titled ‘Air-Sea Fluxes and their Impacts in the Northern Indian Ocean’. The defense involved a public talk for approximately 45 minutes to a diverse audience who attended both, in person in SMAST and over zoom. This was followed by a closed room discussion with his advisor (Prof. Amit Tandon) and his committee members – Prof. Siqi Li (SMAST, UMassD), Prof. Daniel MacDonald (SMAST and Civil and Environmental Engineering, UMassD) and Dr. Tom Farrar (WHOI).

Debarshi previously wrote his written EAS-CSE comprehensive exam in 2024 and with his successful defense has transitioned to a PhD Candidate in the Tandon Lab. We thank all those who attended the talk, especially his committee members, and congratulate Debarshi on this important milestone in his academic career!
